3 of the best London Ice Creams
Ahead of September’s King’s Cross Ice Cream Festival, Petra Barran, founder of Eat Street reveals three of her favourite ice cream destinations in central London.
Sorbitium Ices (Various markets and events)
Sorbitium have just got the most amazing flavouring, it bursts in your mouth. They use incredible and unusual ingredients and really push the boundaries. The flavours change each week using seasonal fruits, herbs and leaves - you can tell that they have really done their homework. They make sherbets and sorbets as well as ice creams.
Suzanna and Pedro are a lovely pair too, they met when they trained together at Petersham Nurseries and discovered a mutual love for ice cream. I love them and I love their attitude.
Urban Ices (Eat Street, Hackney - @urbanices )
These guys make ice lollies, but they’re really creamy and ice cream like. They have amazing flavours - like pop corn and Vietnamese coffee - and are amazing at executing combinations.
Every lolly is handmade, as is the wrapping, and you get a really lovely sense when you buy one that it has been made just for you.
They have a tricycle that they push round London with a freezer on it; you can find them at Eat Street, in Hackney, and all over London really. The best thing is to follow them on Twitter @urbanices
Oddono (14 Bute Street, London SW7 3EX / Selfridges Food Court Oxford Street)
Oddono’s make incredible gelato with great flavours that taste amazing. You can really tell the quality. I always get one whenever I’m in Selfridges.
